I opened your site while Surfing ! Then I
realised I could add something to your site, hopefully. My mother was born in

James Robert Cullen KYOGLE
I believe they had 6 children, with mother the
only Girl. Eric name I only remember
My mother left Kyogle to train as a nurse in
Sydney then left for South Africa and nursed President Jan Smuts before moving
to London when 2nd WWar started. Met my Father a Major in the regular Brit
Army based in Brecon Wales, married 1941. I arrived on VJ Day 15th August 1945
Brit serviceman were offered Land in Africa for service at
demob. My parents were allocated to Settle Land in Karoi Land Settlement
scheme area of Rhodesia they were one of the 1st 17 and left UK Sept, arrived
Cape Town Oct by train to Salisbury on to the farm early Nov. Our farm was K
14 and mother named it KYOGLE after her home town. we had it for 12 years
growing Tobacco & Maize, raising cattle once the Tsetse Fly was driven off
to the Zambezi. We moved to Mutare and I became a teacher still teaching at a
College Hillcrest Science and Agriculture. Married Yvonne Eunice Grant of
Scottish decedent and have two children Alison ( after Alice) 27 and Bryan 24
both in the computer world.
I feel you at Kyogle might like to hear about an olde Kyoglian
whose farm is under threat from War Veterans and a President who wants to take
back prime Tobacco land from the settlers !
So if you do know of a Cullen or family still
in Kyoei a positive reply would hearten us in this time of
"Harshness". We don't intend leaving Zim and am sure we all have
that outback/ Aussie stubbornness to survive !
Just a thought for your Festival !
Yours sincerely
Humphrey and Yvonne Tate
