What Is Landcare?

Landcare is the activity that many Australians take to care for our land and other natural resources. Landcare is a unique Australian network of individuals working in groups, who care for soil, water, plants and wildlife affected by degradation.

Landcare activities help to restore and conserve valuable natural resources. People from a neighbourhood or local area who care about what is happening to natural resources in their area form Landcare groups. These groups then undertake on-ground works or education projects which help restore and conserve the natural resources in their area.

Who Is Involved in Landcare?

Landcarers are everyday Australians who love their country and care enough to help out. They work voluntarily to help restore the natural resources, such as soil, water and vegetation on which our economy depends. Anyone and everyone can be involved in Landcare. Whether you live in the city, on the land or on the coast you can become involved in Landcare, Age makes no difference, everyone has something valuable to offer.

How Can You Become Involved In Landcare?

There are over 100 Landcare groups in the Richmond catchment and over 2000 Landcare groups in NSW. Two landcare co ordinators are now situated in the Richmond catchment. If you or any of your friends are interested in forming a landcare group, or finding out whether a Landcare group already exists in your area, the co ordinators can provide you with the relevant information. They can come and talk to interested groups of people about Landcare, what Landcare means, how to start a group, how to manage a project, how to apply for funding for projects or about the Landcare network in the catchment and in NSW.
